Meet some of the members of Oceanside CrossFit and read what they have to say about our program and the results they have achieved
Meet Vicky then...
Vicky is a mother of two, lives a very busy and challenging lifestyle and like many of us had difficulty finding time for herself and didn't have time to spend hours in the gym.
The time she did spend on her fitness was that of the traditional methodologies of machines, treadmills, and stair masters. Doing the same routines over and over to nauseating boredom with mediocre results at best.
Vicky had witnessed others training CrossFit and had seen first hand the results they had achieved and hoped she could as well. Vicky came to us with a strong mind, strong will, and a focused determination both in terms of the demands of CrossFit as well as the nutritional values we practice.
Meet Vicky now!!
The picture itself speaks for the results as far as anatomy and shape. What this picture cannot show you is Vicky's superior performance since joining our program.
She consistently hits the Work outs of the Day as prescribed, she olympic and power lifts, runs, rows, jump ropes, she now does men push ups, and can do multiple pull ups unassisted before coming off the bar. The feats Vicky can now accomplish are too many to list.
We now refer to Vicky as a great athlete.

Meet Amy then...
Dan and Amy came to Oceanside CrossFit intrigued by the CF methodology but due to their strong medical backgrounds a bit skeptical of the program's claims of "Elite Fitness." In addition, Dan was already an accomplished endurance athlete even qualifying and performing in the prestigious Boston Marathon so really what could we do for him. Dan and Amy have now fully embraced the CrossFit lilifestyle and have paid OCF the greatest compliment we could ask for. They have moved to the Seattle, WA area to open their own CrossFit gym. If your ever in their area you need to pay them a visit (www.crossfitkitsap.com)!
Posted below is the letter Dan and Amy wrote to OCF just prior to their departure up north:
Meet Amy Now!!
Dear Oceanside CrossFit
It is with excitement and sadness that we leave the gym, OCF. We feel exceptionally lucky to have found you and can't imagine what life would be like without you. We have always known that we were meant to open a business of our own. CrossFit was the final piece of the puzzle for us and has truly completed this quest.
Jeff, Laura, Liza and Mark... we can't thank you enough for embracing us and including us in the business so we could grow and learn, and develop skills that will be necessary once we leave our safety net. We also will never be able to express with words our thanks for what you have done for us as CrossFitters. You have pushed us beyond our physical and mental comfort zones and shown us what we are truly capable of. You have made us not only better athletes, but better people.
The entire community at OCF has also contributed hugely to our development as CrossFitters as well. We have continually been amazed at the level of commitment and dedication OCF members have displayed in their own personal endeavors but most importantly their support of the community both inside and outside the gym. The people of this community are the single most motivating factor for us to open our own box. We hope to foster the same love of the sport while developing an OCF family of our very own.
Meet Dan then...
We will miss our sister affiliate and will refer to you as such with pride. We hope you all stay in touch and extend an open invitation to Kitsap CrossFit to you all.
With gratitude and love,
The Hollingsworths
Meet Dan Now!!

Meet Steve then...
Meet Steve now!!
Has Steve discovered the fountain of youth? The "Meet Steve now" picture is a clear depiction of the energy and youth Steve has come to enjoy since joining the program. Let Steve tell you himself..
Jeff and Laura,
About a year ago my older brother was in town visiting, and although he has always been in great shape, he looked different. I asked him what he had been doing because he looked rock solid, better than he did at 25 and he is now over 50. It really got my attention because my body had been falling apart steadily, beginning at about 42. All my joints hurt, my back was a mess, I was constantly getting cramps,I was stiff as a board and I could barely get out of bed in the morning. If I could make it out in the water to surf, I would cramp up in 15-20 minutes and have to go in. I had pretty much figured I had burned up my body from years of abuse and over use. I was desperate and attentive when he simply said "CrossFit".
I had no idea what "CrossFit" was about, I did not care, all I knew was that I wanted what my brother had. I needed to do whatever I could to try and roll back the clock on my body, so I could do the things I loved to do. So I could live again.
This was a Sunday, on Monday I Googled CrossFit and searched for a "gym" near my home. Fortunately, there was a "gym" close by, Oceanside CrossFit. I called and talked to Laura, I asked if "Old people" were allowed to join the "gym." She laughed and said yes, we have older people here. I was relieved and immediately signed up for the intro class.
My goal was to try and return physically to the condition I was in when I was 42, I'll be 50 this year, in all honestly, I did not think that was possible, but I was committed. I spent a little time trying to figure out what "CrossFit" was before my first "class" and the best I could figure was to show up, put your ego aside, and just do what they say. So I did.
Laura led the intro class and she was solid, very clear, knowledgeable and supportive. Don't let anyone kid you , it was tough. The "warm ups" were what I used to call a workout. When I watched others in the gym, I could not believe their strength, stamina and flexibility. That's what I wanted, but could I ever get there?
Fast forward...My original goal of trying to turn back the physical clock to 42 seems silly today, this program, this community and these incredible "trainers" at OCF helped me reach that goal months ago, in fact, my current goal is to be in the best shape of my life at my 50th birthday, 12-06-09. To be honest, it's August now and other than a few areas of my physical fitness, I am absolutely in the best shape of my life now!
OCF is an unbelievable family of like minded people working together to achieve elite fitness. I am proud to be allowed to enter the "Box" and be part of the community.
You guys are the best, thanks for all your support, teaching and motivation.
Steve P

Lisa (right) & Kelsey (left) a Mother and Daughter dedicated to their own journey to "Elite Fitness."
Lisa and Kelsey recently attended the Level 1 CrossFit Certification course and here is what they wrote us upon there return:
Hey Guys,
WOW! This certification was truly an incredible experience! Thankfully tomorrow is a rest day. God knows I'll be struggling to get to work, and I think Kelsey may have a few aches and pains as well. Anyhow, What Im really writing to say is thanks for being such great coaches, and positive representatives of the CrossFit community. I can't even begin to express what an important part of our lives you guys have been, especially over the past few months. (Maybe it's time for that testimonial page!). We'll see you on Tuesday and you'll probably have to break out the duct tape to shut us up 'cuz well still be raving about how awesome this weekend was!
Thanks again
Lisa and Kelsey

Catina doing what she does best and that is
she strives to be the best in all that she does
This is a quote written by Catina on the comment section from the 08/11/09 WOD.
"Jeff, thanks for the glowing tribute. What you and Laura have put together at CrossFit is amazing and I can't thank you enough for how positively you've influenced my life."

Harrison, one of our teenagers, has thrived in the program and his achievements in the gym have spilled over academically in school as well as his Brazilian jiu jitsu competition. Harrision took silver at the IBJJF Pan Ams in 2009 (One of two of the largest jiu jitsu competitions in the world).
This is an email received from a very proud PA PA:
The photo of Harrison is very cool, he was very proud to see it & loved it. He is also very strict with the Zone Challenge diet and has lost about 13 lbs.
I wanted to thank you both for all that you are doing for him (workout, Jits) as well as the encouragement/training/coaching, it is paying off in his life. He is becoming a person of very high drive thru personal effort. In fact, his last report card was straight A+'s. He is determined to be the #1 student academically at his school (he says he is currently #5).
Again, thank you -

OCF a Fitness Driven Community
This is an excerpt from a comment taken from the 08/03/09 WOD
"Do you know the real reason that we are such dedicated CrossFitters? Yeah the workout is phenomenal and the results have been a bit mind blowing, but what drives us to come back to the box for more punishment day after day, week after week, is every single one of you all. The community is what sets CrossFit and espceially OCF head and shoulders above any other program in the world. My primary goal, above establishing a successful business and "Forging Elite Athletes" is forging a strong, fitness driven community. OCF is our template and we will strive to have a "band of freaks" that are as committed to and supportive of each other as you all have been."

Chris Sheets
On March 14, 2009 I had a major snowboard accident that landed me in the Hospital withcomplete knee construction. Replacement of my ACL and MCL along with meniscus repair. The Doctor explained to me I would be able to lead a normal life after the surgery but it was very possible that I would not have the active lifestyle I led before. This included no snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, Mtn. Biking, or basically anything that would put stress on my knee. As you can imagine it really bummed me out that I might never do the activities I love so much and are such a huge part of my life. I then spent the better part of six months laying on my back with my knee elevated to keep the swelling down and to help the knee heal the best it can. During those six month I enjoyed such delights as Carne Asada burritos and pizza on a regular basis (due to the fact It was really tough to cook while on crutches). I ended up at a very sexy 235 lbs from my original 200 lbs. Lets just say if you love a man with a belly I was your man not to mention I needed the Manzier aka the bro. (see Sinefeld). In mid January of 2010 the Doctor cleared me for moderate exercise but I was warned to stay within my limits. At that point noticing that I was just about the size of a baby whale I decided to check out Crossfit. I had a friend that spoke very high of it and said it would be good for my healing knee. I called upOceanside Crossfit and made an appointment with Jeff and signed up to do it. The first workout just about killed me!!!!!! mind you it consisted of some pushups some sit ups and squats..... and might I say looking back it was not very many of any of those exercises. I almost died because my baby whale size body was not used to doing anything but laying on a couch. It took a week or two to get over the initial soreness but once I did I started making progress very quickly. In just 2 month I dropped 15 lbs and 1 full pant size. As you can see in this photo there was a considerable change in a very short time.I attended 3 classes a week without fail and watched my eating. I did the zone diet andhonestly it was a pretty loose interpretation of the diet. I definitely was eating a ton better but I wasnʼt as strict as I should have been. I could have made even more progress in that time. Its now june 1st and I have been at Oceanside crossfit for a little over 5 months and have lost 28lbs of fat and wear 2 pants sizes smaller along with a full shirt size smaller. I sit here in a coffee shop at Mammoth ski resort after a long weekend ofsnowboarding. I have snowboarded the last 3 weekends in a row and it looks like Ishould get a few more days in this season before all the snow is gone. After the Doctor telling me I may never be active again and now Iʼm snowboarding every weekend, All I can say is Thank you to Laura and Jeff at Oceanside Crossfit from the Bottom of my heart. You guys have helped fix me and have helped me reach one of my most important goals.

Meet Ken Then
Dear Jeff & Laura,
I do not know about other people, but I can count on one hand the times I have experienced an event in my life that I know changed me as a person for the better. A few would be meeting Beth for the first time, marrying Beth, the birth of my children and another is joining Oceanside CrossFit Family.
I started OCF on June 5, 2010, it was a Saturday and the WOD was Fight Gone Bad. Laura you partnered me up with Frank, which was the best decision because he explained how the WOD wenT and how to pace myself since it was my first time in the box. My score was 170, which seemed like a great score at the time until I saw other scores on the board. Once I regained consciousness, I was introduced to Danny and some of his words of wisdom. I then told Laura I was going to sign up for a year.
I am far from a L4 athlete as of now but here is a list of things I am since walking into OCF (my second home):
-
-
-
- I am a better role model for my children
- I am a better husband
- I am healthier both physically and mentally
- I am connected with people who are absolutely positive
- I am able to tell my friends Happy Hour is at OCF
- I am able to do dead hang pull ups for the first time in my 38 years of life
- I am able to run a sub 7 minute mile
- I am able to deadlift 301 lbs
- I am able to do pistol squats
- I am able to RX most L2 WOD’s
-
-
Of course there are more accomplishments I could list but this letter is to highlight how both of you have a gift of creating a close knit family at OCF. All of the things in the above list would not be there if the caring family component was not at OCF. This includes providing highly qualified trainers to all of us.
There are 2 automatic withdrawals from my checking account each month that I never mind seeing, my giving to my church and my OCF payment, which goes to show how much both of you touch my life and everyone else’s at OCF.
I hope both of you take a minute after reading this to bow you heads and thank the Lord for making you, who you are because I know I do.
Sincerely,
Ken Schroeder
