January Athlete of the Month - Shawn
Published January 3, 2018
Hi, my name is Shawn Dreifuss, I am 21 years old I and I work at Sprint. I’ve lived in Carlsbad my whole life and live with a few of my best friends we recently moved right down the street into a house which we plan to create a little CrossFit gym of our own. I also have a twin brother who is almost a foot taller than me and we look nothing alike, we are two entirely different people no one believes we are related. I attended Carlsbad high school and played basketball and tennis there and won a CIF championship for tennis. I started playing basketball my freshman year and started tennis because the season was over I had never played before but it was just larger ping pong and I was good at that so I picked it up pretty quickly.
My brother and I have always lived an active lifestyle and always worked out together until I hurt my back I fell off a trampoline and it took two years of recovery but after that I was back at the gym but it wasn’t the same it was very boring and I wanted to try CrossFit because I watched the CrossFit games that year and it looked so fun and competitive. I’ve almost been there a year now and I’ve seen a lot of progress thanks to Steph and Jason who always push me at the 9 o’clock class.
The accomplishments I am most proud of at OCF are to be able to do a handstand walk, I never thought I’d be able to do that and my snatch progression my goal is to get over 200 by the end of 2018.
My short-term goals are to just go and push myself every day and to keep getting better and my long-term goal with CrossFit would be to get to the CrossFit games, might as well go big why not, or a least compete in some competitions when I get a little better.
