September Athlete Of The Month - Jo Baugh

My name is Jo Baugh, I am 52 years old, a Paralegal, mother of two, Lindsay (29) and Jacob (26), and have been married to my love, Kyle for 31 years. I love the beach, water skiing, hiking and rock-climbing.
I have spent most of my life battling eating issues. I chose to diet by not eating. I realized many years ago that I couldn’t continue abusing my body, so I stopped weighing myself daily, joined 24-Hour Fitness and started taking class after class. I enjoyed it, but received poor instruction and training and ended up with two shoulder injuries/surgeries. Enter Christmas 2015 and a gift card to OCF from husband. He always has a way of knowing what I want for myself more than I do. I was excited to start, but it took another five months to get up the nerve to take my first class.
My first three months at OCF were intimidating to say the least. I was nervous but also anxious to come for the workouts. I always say that I’m too old (and I still throw that excuse out there whenever I can); and I was crazy to think that I could even compete in the same league as the type of people that go to CrossFit. I won’t lie, in the beginning it was hard and there are days that are still very hard for me, but I know that I am getting stronger.
My short-term goals are to be able to complete at least one hspu by the end of the year (my shoulders are shot, so hopefully one isn’t too much to ask for); strict pull-ups and double unders. Double unders are my Everest along with so many other things. My long term goal is to continue to be healthy and injury free so I can continue to enjoy OCF for many, many more years.
What I like most about OCF are the people. The coaches and the friends that I have made here are priceless! I am so in awe of all the men and women at OCF, they are such amazing athletes and the most supportive group people that I’ve met. Even though I will never be at the level they are (because I’m old), they make me feel like I can do anything. Thank you OCF for welcoming me into the family.
