November Athlete of the Month - Tim Bode
Published November 1, 2016
My name is Tim Bode and I'm a 31-year-old full-time student at Cal State San Marcos studying accounting. I'm married to Jenny Bode and we have two mini-dachshunds.
I joined Oceanside CrossFit in October 2015. I had recently left the Marines and needed a gym that would challenge me and keep me in shape. I had done some weightlifting and CrossFit type workouts in the Marines, so I thought I'd like going to OCF. I had some experience, but not anything extensive. I mostly did a typical powerlifting routine before I started OCF, so not much cardio or metabolic conditioning.
After the first three months, I really felt a lot stronger and more comfortable with the various lifts and movements that we do in the gym. Also, I didn’t feel like dying after workouts as often as when I first started.
I am proud of some of my PRs from over the summer, which I noticed because I was tracking my progress in a notebook. Once you see your weights increase and you record it, it is a great feeling.
I like the people the best. The coaches and other members are awesome, and they make it a fun environment to suffer in. I am working on my bachelor’s degree right now, and I am looking for accounting internships or jobs for the summer. I am considering going for my mater’s degree in the future. My wife and I would like to start a family in the near future as well. I would like to hike the John Muir Trail someday.
